Charlotte Newborn Photographer
The first days at home with your newborn are a little bit like starting a brand-new book, except this one comes with no instructions, very little sleep, and the best plot twist of your life.
This chapter has all the good stuff: the tiny fingers wrapped around yours, the squeaky little noises that make you melt, the way their hair sticks up in one spot no matter what you do. And if there’s an older sibling in the house? Well, congratulations, you’ve just added a hilarious, unpredictable side character to the story.
Older siblings bring the comedy, the curiosity, and the occasional chaos. They might show off their new “big sibling” skills by reading a book (upside down) to the baby, bringing over every toy they own “for sharing,” or proudly demonstrating how to make the baby giggle. They also bring the sweetest unscripted moments like a kiss on the head, a whispered “I love you,” or a little hand holding a littler one.
When I photograph a newborn session, I’m not setting the stage with fancy props or studio lights. Instead, I’m stepping right into your story, the one happening in your living room, your nursery, and yes… even that hallway you’ve been pacing during late-night rocking sessions.
The magic of documentary newborn photography is that nothing has to be perfect. You don’t need a spotless house (trust me, laundry piles make great backdrops), matching outfits, or a baby who stays in one pose for more than five seconds. What you need is you, the love, the laughter, the yawns, the chaos, and all the “firsts” that are unfolding right now.
One day, your little one will see these photos and not just think, “Wow, I was tiny,” but also, “Look how loved I was from the very beginning.” And for the big sibling? They’ll see themselves as an important part of that very first chapter — the protector, the helper, the partner-in-crime from day one.
